Andrew Piper recognised as V.Ships Cadet of the Year 2020

Last week we got a glimpse into the bright future of one of our young V.Ships cadets when Andrew Piper picked up the award for V.Ships Cadet of the Year 2020 by the City of Glasgow College. Andrew was praised in recognition of the commitment shown throughout his cadetship.

Paul Little, Principal and Chief Executive at City of Glasgow College, said “This June, it is most unfortunate that social distancing rules prohibit us from coming together to mark this important milestone in our academic calendar. What is vital however is that our students leave us with fresh talent, professionalism and finely honed skills. Andrew achieved fantastic results in all of his academics and is a product of the hard work and commitment he has shown throughout his cadetship. With a promising career ahead of him, Andrew is now able to use not only the academic knowledge he has gained but also the many meta-skills which will are invaluable to his success as merchant navy officer.”

Andrew Piper commenting on his recognition “I’m both surprised and thankful for being awarded V.Ships cadet of the year. I’ve had many exciting opportunities while on my cadetship with V.Ships at City of Glasgow College, and after 3 years of hard work, I’m very grateful to be recognised for this.”

Florentina Peteu, Cadet Training Manager, said, “I am delighted that Andrew achieved such recognition, a well-deserved award credit to his hard work and dedication. This recognition is also a testament to the first-class training and support that V.Group offers all of its cadets, and its commitment to fostering and nurturing the best maritime talent. We strongly believe in mentoring the future maritime professionals and this starts with cadets.”

Our current cohort includes over 1,600 cadets from all over the world, undergoing training at all stages of cadetship. We focus on developing the skills, knowledge and competence of our recruits to be future officers, with training completed during both seagoing service and within maritime colleges and academies.

All officers onboard play an active role in the cadet development programme, while our shore-based cadet training team actively manage the process. Our cadets are trained to have absolute regard for safety, security and the maritime environment, receiving mentoring and career guidance throughout their employment with us.
