Thomas Kelly, assistant fleet manager based in V.Group’s Glasgow office, has been elected chairman of the Scottish Branch of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST).
“The Scotland Branch is the largest in the institute,” says Thomas. “We have a rich shipping heritage and this covers all areas of the marine industry – from education through to both Royal Navy and Merchant Navy personnel. It’s an honour to take on this important role and I look forward to following in the footsteps of my previous V.Group colleagues who have also undertaken this role.”
The IMarEST, which represents members from across 120 countries on top issues affecting the industry provides professional develop, networking and outreach opportunities – inspiring the next generation of mariners. “We have a very active young members network here in the Scottish Branch and our involvement in the education system is very much testament to that. It’s something I will invest my time in as chairman,” adds Thomas.
