V.Group CEO Ian El-Mokadem named one of shipping’s most influential people

As an eventful year of activity and growth for V.Group drew to a close, we were thrilled to end the year on a tremendous high.

Following the news earlier last month that V.Group has been named the number one shipmanagement company in the world by top news journal Lloyd’s List, we are delighted to announce that our CEO Ian El-Mokadem has been featured in the 2018 Lloyd’s List top 100 influential people in the shipping industry.

Coming in at number 36 – up from number 58 in 2017 – Lloyd’s List cites Ian’s determination to lead from the front as the reason behind his ranking, and commends the work he has done with V.Group this year in driving genuine transformation across the shipmanagement sector.

The last 12 months have seen a series of major milestones for V.Group as we continue to drive forward with our ambition to lead the transformation of the maritime sector and become the world’s leading marine support services provider.

2018 saw us commence Project Embark, one of the most significant investments in crewing undertaken in our industry, which will pave the way for better crew services and welfare.

We’ve also rolled out a number of large-scale digital initiatives this year, demonstrating our commitment to using data-driven insights and technology to drive better outcomes for our customers.

Our new digital platform ShipSure 2.0 will provide our customers with real-time global data and management insights to help them manage their fleets effectively and efficiently, while our state-of-the-art Fleet Cell of the Future has created a prototype for the future of technical management and marine support services.

This year has also seen considerable growth for V.Group as a business. We’ve opened up a new office in Shanghai to support the expansion of our services in China, and in October we celebrated Norddeutsche Reederei H. Schuldt (NRS) joining V.Group, which, thanks to the combination of the expertise of our colleagues in V.Ships Germany and NRS, creates the platform for a Hamburg-based Centre of Excellence for container ships.

This is just a short summary of some of the highlights that have made 2018 such a wonderful success. And, of course, none of this would have been possible without our fantastic global team, both at sea and on shore, and our valued customers who trust us with their vessels. We’re extremely grateful for all of your continued support this year. Together we are living our shared values of care, consistency, collaboration, challenge and committing and delivering.

Here’s to an even better 2019!
