Four Rigoletto crew to the rescue

The V.Ships UK managed vessel MV Four Rigoletto saved 207 lives while on passage in the Mediterranean Sea.

On the 21st July 2014 while on passage near Malta the Four Rigoletto received a request from RCC Malta to assist with a search and rescue operation.

After 2 hours of searching a small boat was located, overloaded with migrant refugees.

Captain David Gonzales decided to take on board a group of 84 infants, a number of children and their mothers. As the weather conditions deteriorated overnight the remainder of the refugees were taken on board with a total of 207 persons rescued.

The vessel was informed by the authorities to proceed to Crotone in Italy and the survivors were successfully disembarked on 23rd July.

The Master, officers and crew of the Four Rigoletto are to be commended for their actions and also for coping extremely well with a large influx of additional people on board.

V.Ships UK MD John Brechin said: “This rescue operation was a very impressive undertaking and took skilled seamanship by the crew who should all feel very proud.”

Well done to the crew of MV Four Rigoletto!
